Criterix Clinical builds decision support software for one of the highest-stakes moments in inpatient care: acute agitation. Founded by Emily Shaar, RN, BSN, a nurse with twenty years of inpatient psychiatric and medical experience, Criterix addresses the three critical failures that repeat at the bedside: the wrong medication, the fearful underdose, and treatment delays. Our mission is to ensure clinicians have complete information at the moment they need it most, enabling safer, more confident medication decisions that protect both patients and staff. Criterix also publishes educational materials on clinical AI safety and healthcare data privacy, including the AI Data Protection Toolkit, which helps healthcare organizations evaluate AI vendors and protect patient data.

Our architecture reflects a fundamental conviction about how AI belongs in patient care. We use AI only upstream for verifiable tasks like extracting patient history from charts with citations to source documents. The recommendation engine itself is deterministic and rule-based, never machine learning, which means every recommendation can be audited, explained, and defended. Clinicians review everything and make every decision. Criterix supports clinical judgment; it never replaces it. Currently patent-pending and in development, we are speaking with inpatient facilities interested in shaping and piloting our tool.
